TORONTO, July 11, 2024 \u2013 Emma-Jayne Wilson surpassed Hall of Fame jockey Julie Krone for all-time purse earnings by a female jockey on Thursday evening\u00a0at Woodbine Racetrack.<\/p>\n

Entering the day just $11,042 shy of Krone\u2019s $90,126,584 (USD) record, Wilson took her place in racing\u2019s history book with a thrilling victory aboard first-time starter Perfect Lady Bee for Hall of Fame connections of trainer Roger Attfield and owner Charles Fipke to surpass Krone\u2019s mark.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo capitalize and break this record with a win for these connections, you couldn\u2019t have written a storybook any better,\u201d said an emotional Wilson. \u201cI\u2019m trying really hard not to show too much emotion. I\u2019m so used to putting my emotions in the backseat to ride races and be completely focused one race to the next, but this one means so much to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krone, who became the first woman inducted to the National Museum of Racing of Hall of Fame in 2000, has long been tracking Wilson\u2019s success.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomehow I had seen her riding and I just like sent her a compliment or something, and then that perpetuated into calling her,\u201d remembers Krone. \u201cWe ended up talking about really cool things\u2026 about our love for horses, of course, but then we started talking about some of the adversity she was up against at the time. I told her she was such a good rider, and that her horsemanship will always take her through any challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a great female jockey, but the way I see it, she\u2019s a great jockey, period.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wilson, who was shown a special video message from Krone following her record win, reflected on the influence Krone has been and how far racing has come for women.<\/p>\n

\u201cJulie has been a true supporter of mine right from the get-go. Even when she got wind of\u00a0the potential of me breaking the record this year, she\u2019s been messaging me relentlessly to show her support and it\u2019s an absolute honour to share this record with her.<\/p>\n
